Vinyl Packaging Vinyl Record John Coltrane

Packaging your records is often a afterthought at most pressing facilities. Not so at Furnace MFG. With our rich history of packaging, assembly, kitting, mailing services and direct fulfillment, we have created the ultimate packaging facility specifically for the vinyl format.

Utilizing our vast knowledge of component packaging along with over two decades of making, selling and distributing vinyl releases, we know how product needs to be assembled, packaged and shipped to ensure your customers receive a perfect and unblemished copy for their collection.

Using methods borrowed from our mailing and fulfillment departments, we have created systems that ensure that each and every product is packed according to your specs without missing a beat.  Steps like indexing and weight scale checks are used ensure complicated pack-outs with numerous parts and pieces are uniform and are not missing valuable assets.

Quality Control personnel are involved during both the planning and execution phases to ensure that a process is in place to quickly, safely and effectively package your record. Our QC staff is continuously walking the floor inspecting packages, boxes and pallets to make sure that you receive product to your exact specifications.

Furnace offers a multitude of finishing services such as shrink-wrap, conventional polybags or our loose fitting, sealed “audiophile” polybag that includes a perforated top (great for reuse after opening allowing for the original packaging with marketing stickers to stay in tact).  Finish it off with automated and hand applied marketing stickers and  UPC barcodes and you’re ready for retail.

All vinyl is then double or triple boxed to ensure that it is received in tact and undamaged.  All jacketed product is put into a single walled corrugated container which is buffered by two floating pads that cut down on wear and tear while being transported. Two of these cartons (or “inners”) and placed inside of double walled master carton.  Both boxes are labeled with the information your distributor will need to effectively receive and re-ship your product: artist name and album title, catalog number, UPC barcode and carton counts. We encourage that all vinyl is placed on a skid/pallate where it receives edge guards and is tightly shrink-wrapped for LTL or direct truck transport.  If your vinyl needs to be dropped shipped in smaller quantities, each master box has to be triple boxed to survive the trip.  We have created the ultra-master carton that contains foam corners that create void space required by USPS, UPS and FedEx to ensure your records are not damaged during shipping.

Niche services are our specialty...

We excel at multi-record sets such as box set kitting, assembly and finishing.  Whether you have two record or 20 with multiple inserts, CDs, posters, etc, Furnace’s packaging engineers will size up your project and layout all of the requirements to ensure a successful pack-out.  We’ll specify the type of structure that can handle the load, suggest assembly method to balance the package and pick a fill material to keep the contents from shaking around and getting damaged.

Furnace offers foil stamp serialization for  “old-school” looking sequential numbering.  Perfect for limited edition or subscription series releases. We can then box these in sequential order making short work of the fulfillment or mail-order process.

We also have designed a number of protective mailers for direct to consumer packaging so you can rest assured that your vinyl package isn’t beat up as it’s being sent common courier.  Provide us your pre-order mailing list and we can fulfill your product mailings as they come off the line - saving you the time and expense on shipping product from place to place.

All of our vinyl packaging services are performed in our packaging facility in Fairfax, Virginia - 15 minutes from downtown Washington DC.  Feel free to stop on by and check out the operation.
