Print and Packaging Options

Furnace is your one stop source for all things vinyl AND the printed materials that go with: vinyl record jackets, center labels, liner notes, boxsets, slipcases, folders, booklets, marketing stickers, etc.

You won’t find a bigger collection of print and packaging nerds in this industry than the crew at Furnace. Whether you need killer creative on limited budget or you are shooting for the stars, we offer an entire constellation of print and packaging options to match.

If you want to geek out, contact us and we’ll pontificate on the glories of spot varnishes, metallic foils, hinged magnetic boxset lids, debossed lettering, scratch and sniff, and everything in between.

If you dream it, we’ve probably done it a thousand times already. If we haven’t, we’re going to be psyched to figure it out for you. Let’s do this!

Single Pocket Spine Jackets

One pocket, many possibilities. This is the most common form of vinyl record packaging. Graphics on the front and back sides plus a side spine that’s ready for the name of the artist and title plus your catalog number or whatever else you’d like to show when it’s sitting on the shelf. A single pocket opening on the opposite side from the spine fits your record and any inserts you’d like to include. We also offer the option to add a wide spine that forms an extra large pocket so you can include more than one record or a thick booklet.

Formats: 12” and 10” (7” custom order)

Spine: 3mm is standard. Upgrade: Wide spine for multiple disc sets

Board: 20pt SBS, 100% Recycled and Kraft board are standard. Upgrades: 24pt SBS board

Ink Colors: 1c or 4c process pricing is standard. Upgrade: PMS spot color or 5th color added to 4c process

Other Upgrade Options: center-hole or custom die-cuts, spot varnishes, embossing, foil-stamping, numbering, second side print (inside pocket) and just about anything else you can think of…

Gatefold Jackets

Our Gatefold Jackets are made to have one or two pockets but the real magic is the large fold-out spread that provides a 12” x 24” canvas for trippy artwork or liner notes. Gatefolds have a spine opposite from the pocket openings for the band, titles and release info. Great for two LP sets or a lonely record that wants some additional graphics to hang out with. Have us leave both the pockets open, have us glue one closed- whatever you want.

Formats: 12”, 10” and 7”

Board: 20pt SBS and Kraft board are standard. Upgrades: 24pt SBS board

Finish: Aqueous coating is standard. Upgrades: Matte varnish, UV Gloss and uncoated side printing

Triple-Gatefold Jackets

One, two or three pockets. Triple-Gatefold Jackets are perfect for projects in need of extra space for multiple records, booklets, a poster or a combination of all the above. Note: When compared to our Gatefold, the Triple Gatefold has die-cut gutters on the inside as opposed to an uninterrupted spread. If that rubs you the wrong way, backside printing can fill the gaps.

Board: 20pt SBS and Kraft board are standard.

Finish: Aqueous coating is standard. Upgrades: Matte varnish, UV Gloss and uncoated side printing

Ink Colors: 4c process pricing is standard. Upgrade: PMS spot color or 5th color added to 4c process

Case-Wrapped “Old-School” Jackets

Back before there was technology in place to print directly onto thick board-stock, jackets were made by printing onto a paper and then laboriously gluing it onto a pre-made paperboard shell. While printing direct to board is cheaper and faster, these old-school case-wrapped jackets bring you back to the glory days of bebop jazz and the invention of rock and roll. Available in single pocket and gatefold varieties.

Formats: 12”, 10” and 7”

Board: 24pt shell with 80lb printed and glued wrap Upgrade: 24 or 28pt Kraft shell

Finish: Aqueous coating is standard. Upgrades: Matte varnish, UV Gloss, UV laminates and uncoated side printing

Ink Colors: 4c process pricing is standard. Upgrade: PMS spot color or 5th color added to 4c process

Other Upgrade Options: custom die-cuts, spot varnishes, embossing, foil-stamping, numbering, second side print (inside pocket, fill gutters) and just about anything else you can think of…

Printed Paper Sleeves

Combines a protective inner sleeve and liner notes – effectively extending your creative canvas.

Other Upgrade Options: center hole and custom die-cuts, spot varnishes, embossing, foil-stamping, numbering, second side print (inside pocket) and just about anything else you can think of…

Note: Disco-Jackets are strongly recommended for heavyweight 180g 12” records to help avoid seam splits. Inner sleeves can be inserted empty into the jacket if you plan on using an “Rice Paper” or Poly-lined sleeve for added protection. For that old-school single look, slip your 7” inside one of these and call it a day.

Printed Disco-Jackets

Similar to the Printed Paper Sleeves but on heavier paperboard material. Also, they have the word “disco” in their name which is kind of a plus. Printed Disco-Jackets (or Inner Jackets) can be inserted into an outer jacket or used all by itself like DJ records have traditionally been packaged. Plus, they’re rigid enough to be shrink-wrapped and displayed for retail.

Finish: Aqueous coating is standard. Upgrades: Matte varnish, UV Gloss or uncoated side printing

Standard 7” Jackets

Our Standard 7” Jacket is slightly oversized so it’s the right choice if you’d like to insert a record with a protective inner sleeve inside. “Rice Paper” sleeves, paper sleeves, printed paper sleeves or a disco-jackets will fit inside with plenty of room for an insert or a small poster.

Vinyl Center Labels

For most people, center labels are an afterthought. But for manufacturers, printing and preparing labels is sort of a science. Special paper stock is used and then the labels are put into a special oven before they go on the press to prevent blistering or cracking (that’s right, the labels are pressed into the vinyl, not glued on afterward.) Poorly printed labels cause lots of scrap and machine downtime. Because of this, Furnace does not accept customer supplied labels. We handle all of this for you so we can ensure your records look beautiful and ship on time.
